MACHINE CUT LETTERING
Machine cut letters give the traditional look of the hand-cut letter, these letters are also known as vee cut letters as the incision of the letter into the stone in profile is a v shape. The main difference between sandblasted and machine cut letters is that the background of the sandblasted letter is quite flat and reflects light evenly from the letter while machine cut letters reflect light directionally off each side of the vee shape, giving them a sharply defined character. There is no wear and tear difference between the lettering techniques in that they are both cut similarly deeply into the stone. Machine cut letters are restricted to the styles shown here and are also restricted in the size, unlike sandblasted letters.
