SANDBLASTED LETTERING
Sandblasted letters can be applied to granite, marble and limestone and finished in gold leaf (gilded), painted a colour, leaded (marble and limestone only) or left sandblasted only. Sandblasted letters are very versatile, they can be produced in any size and font available to the stone mason. We are even able to reproduce handwriting on stone (view example). Ask advice on the viability of any special fonts you have in mind. Small letters can be sandblasted using a special technique but can only be applied to granite memorials. Very small letters cannot be gilded. Small letters are not available for the single cost memorial. The samples shown here are the most commonly used types of letter and are the only kinds available for our single cost option. Sandblasted letters can be maintained as follows:gilded letters are very delicate and should never be rubbed. They may be cleaned using gentle pressure with a sponge and clean water, or sprayed with clean water using a houseplant sprayer. Gilding, if untouched by rubbing, will last 5 - 10 years in normal weather conditions. Letters may then be regilded if required. Painted letters are more hard-wearing and cleaning can be more thorough using a sponge and water. Regular rubbing of the letters will eventually rub off the paint – the longevity of a painted letter is 6 - 12 years, some last much longer when great care is taken over cleaning. Leading of letters can be applied to sandblasted, machine cut or handcut letters on marble or hard limestone only. Lead letters last longest and can be washed with sponge and water, but abrasive scourers or hard brushes may scratch the lead.
